Dr. Import is a Swiss trading company. This part of the business does one thing: it brings coffee from the Yemeni highlands to buyers in Switzerland and abroad, in lots small enough that provenance still means something.
How we buy
- Directly from cooperatives and established exporters, not from anonymous spot lots.
- In separated lots by region and crop year — we do not blend origins into a single 'Yemen' line.
- Cupped before purchase and again before shipping.
- With the crop year, region and collection point recorded and passed on to you.
What we will not do
We do not publish a price list, because an honest one is impossible for this product. We do not claim certifications a lot does not hold. We do not describe a governorate as a single farm. And we do not promise unlimited volume from an origin that produces a fraction of one percent of the world's coffee.
The people who grow it
Yemeni coffee is farmed by families working terraces of a fraction of a hectare, in a country under enormous strain. Coffee competes for their land and water with qat, which pays faster. The only durable argument for coffee is that it pays better — which means paying properly at origin and buying again the following year. That is the relationship we try to build, and it is the reason we buy small and return.
